“Decoding the Hair” exhibition going on in Mumbai

A fun-meet-science exhibition “Decoding the Hair” is going on in Mumbai at the Nehru Science Centre. The exhibition is till 28th February, 2009. The Paris Science and Industry Museum called “Cité des sciences et de l’industrie” (CSI) along with L’Oréal, the global leader in cosmetics are the organisers.

“Decoding the Hair” is a surprising, fun and instructive exhibition on a theme that is attractive by its familiarity, its universality and its predominant place in our daily lives. It spans social sciences, live sciences, materials sciences, industry, technology and research. The exhibition will be customised for the Indian audience and hence the text along with the films will be presented in four languages – Hindi, Marathi, English and English Braille.

The exhibition primarily looks into four sections and guides the visitors through the following:

  • Of life and matter: Here, the visitors will get to know about hair – its structure and properties using a model of hair root.
  • The science behind the products: With emphasis on research in the industry related to hair care-shampoos, hair care products, hair colours, etc from the research stage through to product manufacture.
  • The metamorphosis room: The transformation zone is a fun zone where visitors can try over 40 different hairstyles in a multimedia simulation game and get several creative ideas for a new look by changing their hairstyle.
  • Hair of the world: This section enables visitors to explore different cultures of the world in the context of hair, hair paintings, popular idioms related to hair, songs from all over the world that are focused on hair including our very own Bollywood tracks like Ude Jab jab zulfe teri.

Details about the venue and timings:

  • Nehru Science Centre – the exhibition venue is conveniently located between Mahalaxmi station and Worli Naka.
  • The exhibition timing is 10 am to 6 pm and ticket counter timing is 10 am to 5 30 pm.
  • The exhibition is open to one and all.
  • The admission fee for general visitors is Rs 20 with discounts for groups and students.
  • The Science Centre is open to public every day including Sundays and public holidays.
