Gear up with a few things to enjoy your Holi to the fullest

Holi, the festival of Colours, is here again. There is no festival more vibrant, colourful and exhilarating than Holi. Everyone enjoys getting painted in clouds of colours and soaking in showers of coloured water.

Though the festival is much awaited by people, there are many who suffer from skin problems, allergies, breakouts and irritations later on. Staying prepared and keeping a few things handy this Holi will enable you to enjoy a fun filled and colourful Holi.

A few must haves for Holi this year

  • A white set of clothes – keeping them white works wonders for all the Holi enthusiasts to paint on you
  • Organic colours – use organic colours and stay away from chemical colours that could damage hair, skin & eyes
  • Coconut based hair oil – A good massage for your hair with coconut based hair oil before you go out to play Holi is an absolute must. Oiling your hair prior to playing Holi will save it from harsh chemicals and make it easier to manage post-wash
  • Hair band – Keep one handy in case you have long hair, or tie it neatly in a bun
  • Moisturizers – Moisturize and nourish your skin after you wash off all the colours
  • Vaseline – use it under nails and soles, elbows and other dry areas of the body
  • Colour removers – a few natural remedies like using a paste of soybean flour or gram flour (besan) with milk etc could be sued. To clean use warm water and moisturizing soap to scrub off the colours. Using a cream cleanser or baby oil, gently massage off the left over colour
  • Pichkari – and last but not the least you have to have the age old Pichkari to splash colours on your near and dear ones!!

Holi is the most colourful festival of the Hindus that falls on the full moon day in the month of March. It heralds the arrival of Spring – the season of hope and new beginnings and marks the rekindling of the spirit of life and the end of chilly winter days and the beginning of summer. The mythological origins of this festival vary in different parts of the country. Playing with colours on Holi is fun but can turn out to be harmful if care is not taken.
Now that you are equipped with all the requisites for Holi, get going and have a Fun Filled HOLI!!!

Pre & Post Hair Care for ‘Holi’

leave a comment »

Please note that this article is authored by Parachute Advansed hair oil. If you have read the previous post on hair care during holi, here is a recap.

The joyous, riotous, festival of colours, Holi, is around the corner and you walk the streets in constant apprehension about youngsters pelting you with water balloons from rooftops.

However, you needn’t feel terrorized by colours as knowledge about the damage they can do and how to prevent or tackle minor problems that may arise as a consequence, can put your fears to rest.

The damages

  • Colors in dry or liquid state can cause a condition called ‘acute irritant contact dermatitis’ i.e. rashes and redness, with intense burning and itching in the exposed areas resulting is flaring up existing allergies.
  • Hair having dandruff hair clubbed with colour can worsen the scalp and lead to chronic itching.
  • Hair exposed to colours can become dull, dry and brittle. Accidental ingestion of colours can cause toxicity, as they’re usually prepared from metal oxides like lead.

Prevention is better than a Cure!

  • Use organic colours as a substitute for Holi colours.
  • Apply Coconut based Hair Oil on your scalp which will act as a barrier and prevent colours from directly coming in contact with hair and will lessen the damage.
  • Wear a hair-band/ scarf or a bandana around your head to protect your hair from entangling or damaging due to artificial colours.

Handling the aftermath

  • Remove colours as soon as you’ve finished playing Holi. If colours don’t come off in the first wash, rub warm coconut based hair oil and lemon juice generously over hair, leave for an hour and wash again.
  • Before washing your hair with shampoo a quick massage with coconut based hair oil on scalp and hair length will protect hair from excessive dryness caused by colors.

Our hair, the crowning glory, can get damaged thanks to the synthetic colours that one plays during the colourful festival of Holi. However Parachute Advansed has brought out vital tips for all of you to have beautiful hair all year around. Today we present to you the first in the series of four articles. Hope you enjoy…

Holi Hai!!!

The most anticipated festival of colours is back. The most essential element of Holi is colours – red, green, blue, yellow and many more. Without colours, Holi is meaningless. But these same colours give rise to our woes of harmful skins and damaged hair. Did you know that most colours sold these days contain extremely harmful chemicals? These colours have in them heavy metals, acids and powdered glass and the bases in which these chemicals are mixed are highly toxic.

Did you know?

à Colors in Liquid or dry state can cause irritation and redness of the scalp and skin

à Hair which is exposed to colors can cause itching

à Hair exposed to colors can make hair dull, dry and brittle.

Does that mean that you should not play HOLI; Of course not; HOLI is meant to be the festival of enjoyment— Just a few small precautions can ensure that you take care of your hair during your HOLI celebrations:

Did you know?

  • Wear a hair-band/ scarf or a bandana around your head to protect your hair from entangling or damaging due to artificial colours.
  • Oiling of the hair with coconut based hair oil thoroughly before jumping into the playing arena can go a long way in taking care of this common problem.
  • Post holi, massaging your scalp or a good champi with coconut based hair oil is the best treatment to heal and protect the bounce in your hair.

That’s it; just a few small steps that not only you; but your hair also has an extra happy HOLI!
